Muck Diving and More: Asia Welcomes Beginning Divers

Warm and sunny, with great prices and excellent service, Asia is a destination we at Scuba Divers Travel Network love.  Not only do we enjoy it ourselves, we know even beginning scuba divers will enjoy some top locations around the Asian continent.  Whether you want to encounter whale sharks or manta rays, or if you simply want to relax and enjoy some of the world's loveliest coral reef dive sites, you'll find you can enjoy the dive experiences of your dreams in places like Papua New Guinea, Indonesia, and Thailand.  Ready for a tropical adventure?  Let's get started!

Papua New Guinea

Papua New Guinea has excellent dive infrastructure, with dive centers, resorts, and liveaboards all catering to divers of every skill level.  While Papua New Guinea is a favorite with experts, thanks to its steep walls and views into the ocean's deep abyss, it is also home to splendid barrier and fringing reefs, shallow coral gardens and sea grass beds, and even to some WWII wrecks in shallow water.  Whether you enjoy history or marine life, or if you're fascinated by both sightseeing and wreck dives, Papua New Guinea has them.   Another reason we love PNG is that dive groups tend to be small, and even new divers rarely find themselves in "diver soup."   Instead, you'll see frogfish, harlequin ghost pipefish, sea snakes, turtles, and thousands of other creatures!

Thailand

While expert divers love Thailand for its challenging dive sites, there are also plenty of sites suitable for new divers here.  In particular, dive sites around Phuket have much to offer.  This island features a splendid chain of bays surrounded by sandy beaches and palm trees; underwater, the coral is incredible, and the tropical fish are healthy and abundant.  Phuket is a great place to look for macro life including nudibranchs and fascinating shrimp, and larger creatures are in evidence too.  At some sites, you'll have the opportunity to encounter stingrays, moray eels, and even sleepy reef sharks.

Indonesia

Offering incredible marine biodiversity and an equally amazing number of dive sites suitable for all levels, Indonesia is one place you can check off your bucket list early in your diving career.  With clear, warm water surrounding thousands of islands, and with underwater topography that includes reefs, walls, pinnacles, and more, Indonesia is home to dolphins, rays, turtles, and a roster of tropical fish that looks a lot like an underwater "Who's Who" list.   If you've never been muck diving or night diving, Indonesia is a great place to enjoy those experiences for the very first time.

If you're planning a trip to any of these destinations and bringing a non-diving friend with you, you'll find there is plenty to keep him or her occupied while you're diving; and, if the diving bug bites, many of Asia's best dive operators offer instruction.  So, whether you want to improve your own skills in amazing surroundings, or introduce someone else to diving, Asia is a great place to do it.  As you plan your trip, be sure to check out our dive site descriptions - there are enough here to keep you busy for years!
