Can I take anti-malarial drugs and dive?

More than one million people die each year from malaria. Before visiting a country where malaria is prevalent, you should seek advice from a physician as to which anti-malarial drug is best suited for you based on the strain of malaria in that country. It is important to start taking the anti-malarial medication before traveling to a malarial zone. There is no clinical evidence that anti-malarials interact with scuba diving; one exception is mefloquine (lariam) which can cause hallucinations and seizures.
