Do elasmobranchs sleep?

Elasmobranches do sleep, but the manner in which they do so varies between species.  Some sharks, along with rays and skates, lie on the bottom to sleep and actively pump water over their gills.  Some scientists also believe that some sharks may sleep one brain hemisphere at a time, allowing them to remain conscious and swimming at all times.
