How can we protect sharks?

Stricter regulations and enforcement is of primary importance in order to ensure that existing shark populations are protected and so that they can bounce back and remain healthy.  Limits on the number of sharks that can be legally killed and the creation of marine protected areas for these creatures is important; and extra protection is urgently needed for the great white shark to ensure its survival.  Additionally, more sophisticated methods of repelling sharks and keeping them away from swimming areas will prove to be helpful.
