In order to learn to scuba dive you must get your dive certification. To do so, it is important to go through a fully recognized dive program such as PADI, which is the most widely recognized. Through this and similar dive certification programs you will:
- amass the knowledge you need to know about scuba diving including learning diving terminology, how diving affects the body, and all about how to choose the best diving gear
- perform five confined water dives in order to develop basic diving skills in a controlled environment, including things like how to assemble and put on your gear, how to get water out of your mask while under the water, some basic water emergency skills, and more
- perform four open water dives in the real world, whether it be in an ocean or a lake or another body of water, where you will hone the basic skills you learned in the confined water portion of your training
