How extensive is the fossil record of gastropods?

Gastropods have an extensive fossil record and it shows that marine gastropods were the first to exist.  There are a few shelled animals that were once considered to be the fossils of gastropods, but are now recognized as something different, such as ammonites or cephalopods.  The earliest gastropod fossils are found in the Late Cambrian.
