Divers should wait at least 24 hours before hopping on a flight as this gives enough time for the nitrogen bubbles in the bloodstream to dissolve and become harmless. If adequate time is not allowed for the nitrogen to dissipate there is a high risk of decompression sickness (DCS) due to the pressurized environment in the plane. It is best to plan a dive-free day at the end of the dive vacation before getting on a plane.
