What are the different types of buoyancy compensation devices (BCDs)?

Buoyancy Compensation Devices or BCDs come in different styles although the vest or jacket is the most common.  The difference is that the vest wraps around the front of the body with the side panels having pockets where the inflatable bladders are placed.  The jacket is just as the name implies an actual jacket with inflatable bladders inside pockets.  Another style of BC is called the “Wing”, which is designed without pockets.  Instead, inflatable balloons run along the sides and back, providing balance in the back where the majority of dive equipment weight is placed.  For that reason, most divers prefer the “Wing” style BCD.
