The Professional Association of Diving Instructors (PADI) and National Association of Underwater Instructors (NAUI) are the two agencies most commonly used. PADI is the largest and most recognized of all agencies with instructors found worldwide. Although PADI offers certification for all skill levels, beginners choose this agency over all others combined. NAUI is one of the larger certification agencies globally and the oldest in the United States. While some dive centers are found internationally, most are located throughout North America. In addition, NAUI is the oldest certification agency in the United States.
