What is a marine reserve?

Marine reserves are a specific type of Marine Protected Area (MPA) that offers very high levels of protection for the marine environment.  It is the goal of these areas to offer ongoing protection in order to re-establish a natural state of being for the environment and the marine creatures that live within it.
