Why do divers depend so much on dive watches?

It is important to understand that dive watches are not like a standard watch worn to work every day.  Instead, a dive watch is made specifically for divers and underwater environments.  In addition to being water resistant to up to 990 feet, these watches are designed to work with dive computers so important aspects of each dive is calculated, recorded, and reported.
