What are the signs and symptoms of an arterial gas embolism (AGE)?

Signs that someone may have experienced an arterial gas embolism include a sudden loss of consciousness which is often accompanied by a general or focal seizure. There is often confusion, extreme dizziness and sometimes the victim is in cardiopulmonary arrest. There may also be a weakness down one side, visual defects, a loss of feeling and these often occur suddenly as opposed to hours later. Anyone who loses consciousness within ten minutes of surfacing or upon surfacing should be assumed to have an air gas embolism until otherwise proven.
