Are gastropods endangered?

Yes, many gastropod species are endangered, mostly terrestrial and fresh water species.  In fact, 1182 species of gastropods are recognized as threatened or endangered by the World Conservation Union.  When it comes to terrestrial gastropods, all large snails and many small snails are endangered due to loss of habitat, disease, and the introduction of predators, including pigs and rats.  Collectors also play a role.
