Is avascular bone necrosis limited to technical divers?

No. Avascular bone necrosis or dysbaric osteonecrosis is a serious bone disorder that has been seen in technical divers. It is caused when parts of the bone tissue die and can lead to joint dysfunction and require surgical joint replacement. The cause is unknown but the incidence has been shown to increase with deep diving. In the last few years avascular bone necrosis has been seen increasingly in recreational divers.
