Can individuals with musculoskeletal problems dive?

In many cases, yes, but for some conditions, especially those affecting the neck and back, heavy lifting of dive equipment, climbing in and out of the boat, and other physical requirements associated with diving can cause permanent or serious nerve damage.  In addition, some musculoskeletal disorders could be dangerous to diving such as a herniated disc or severe diseases of the spine.  The reason is that to ensure a safe dive, the diver must have freedom of movement without pain.
